No terrain is too tough for these Little Athletes

NO TERRAIN is too tough for these cross country kids from Mt Eliza.

Three of Victoria’s six quickest young runners at the recent School Sport Victoria championships are from the suburb’s primary schools.

Declyn Tanner from Mt Eliza Primary School and Sebastian Farrelly from Kunyung Primary School won the female and male 10-year-old golds, while Hamish Terris, also from Kunyung Primary, was the quickest male 11-year-old at the July 20 event.

And just two days after the School Sport races, Sebastian and Declyn both backed it up with more Victoria wins, this time taking first places at the state Little Athletics competition.

All three also represent Mornington Little Athletics club.

The trio will have the chance to take more gold at the national school sport titles to be held in Tasmania later this month.

Sebastian said he started cross country four years ago.

“I like competing, and was pretty proud to come first,” he said.

“I was quite confident I could do well, and was happy to have got the win.”

Hamish is newer to the sport, having taking his first competitive cross country steps just two years ago.

But he is already doing well at every championship he enters, coming 23rd in the national school titles last year.

“I hope to do better this time, top 15 would be good,” he said.

Declyn said she enjoys running as well as netball, and has endurance to burn.
