Dirranbandi and District LAC receive Coles funding to purchase equipment

Dirranbandi’s smallest athletes are hurdling, throwing and jumping a whole lot more, thanks to a $1100 grant from Coles Supermarkets to buy new sports’ gear.

Across the country, 100 Little Athletics centres received a funding boost to replace or expand sports’ equipment, through the chain’s community bags program, with Dirranbandi one of the lucky recipients.

Coles state general manager Reagan Lauder told the Balonne Beacon the supermarket giant was excited to get kids outdoors.

“The Dirranbandi and district Little Athletics centre told us they would like to receive a grant to buy relay batons, discuses and storage equipment, and we were delighted to help,” she said.

“We know these are an essential part of Little Athletics to support volunteers and young budding athletes.”

Annie Carson from Dirranbandi Little Athletics said the centre hoped the grant would encourage more children to participate.

“We hope that by offering Little Athletics in the community, it will encourage more children to get involved and help to live active, healthy lives,” Ms Carson said.

“Our registration day will be on Monday, April 1 at Dirranbandi school, before the season starts on April 29.

“We invite all previous members to return this year, and we welcome new members.

“We are very excited for another great year of Little Athletics and the surrounding district.”
