Transplant recipient

Let's learn about Transplant Recipients!

A transplant recipient has an organ or some tissue which has been transplanted into them.

What is a transplant?

Organ and tissue transplantation involves removing organs or tissue from a donor and transplanting them into someone who needs them.

Safety

A transplant can cause a process where the immune system of the person attacks the donor organ or tissue.

To reduce the risk of rejection of the donated organ, they might take medication to suppress the immune system.

This medication puts them at greater risk of infection and makes their skin more sun sensitive.

  • It is important to be aware of infection control and encourage all members to wash hands and not attend when sick.
  • Athletes need to stay hydrated and avoid too much sun exposure.

Athletes may miss sessions because of surgery or appointments.

Benefits of athletics

Health

Research shows that physical activity gives the transplant a great chance of success. Exercise improves fitness, increases strength and benefits balance and coordination
