True Inclusion Method (TIM)

True Inclusion Method (TIM)

True Inclusion Method (TIM) ranks all athletes in the Centre based on their relative improvement in Season Personal Bests (PB's). Athletes are ranked from the most improvement in Season PB, to least or no improvement in Season PB.

Results are calculated automatically in Results HQ or can be calculated manually. TIM does not replace the current results system, it is in addition to the current results system. The choice to run TIM is optional and based on the approval from your Member Association and Little Athletics Centre.

Benefits of True Inclusion Method (TIM)

Research conducted by Coles Little Athletics Australia and the University of Sunshine Coast have shown that TIM is simple, fair and improves inclusion. An added benefit is that ALL athletes loved TIM because it helped track and see the changes in their Season PB's and offered an extra competition.

This is why TIM is for the WHOLE CENTRE, not a separate activity for athletes with disability.

How is TIM calculated?

TIM is calculated automatically in Results HQ. The recorder will enter the results in the same way they do now. You will see 2 extra columns. TIM pos is the TIM position or rank. TIM diff is the difference between the Season PB and today’s result.

The view for athletes and parents is similar. They will see 2 extra columns with the same title.

If you don’t use Results HQ, you can calculate the results manually.

Calculating Track & Field Events

Track events - you take the time minus the athletes’ Season PB and get a positive or negative difference. A negative number in the TIM for track means the athlete has improved their PB and will be in green.

Time - Athletes Season PB = +/- Difference

Field events - the difference is swapped around. You take the distance minus the athletes' Season PB and get a positive or negative difference. In field events, a positive number in the TIM means the athlete has improved their PB and will be in green.

Distance - Athletes Season PB = +/- Difference

To get the TIM rank, athletes are placed in order from most improved to least improved.

A dash means that the athlete does not have a PB from this season to compare to.

TIM also shows the distance they have improved or how far away they were from their PB. Athletes told us they really loved this feature!

Way to use TIM at your Little Athletics Centre

  • Use TIM for athletes to use weekly, to track their Season PB's to see how much they have improved.
  • A fun TIM carnival meet.
  • Create an end of season TIM award.
  • Use throughout the season to acknowledge the most improved.
  • Use or incorporate TIM rankings into your Age Champion awards.
  • Use TIM to replace the current ranking system.
  • Anyway you think TIM can best support your athletes to have fun and Be their Best!
