AUSSIE ATHLETES GET SET FOR COLES COMMUNITY ROUND

Gold Coast Commonwealth Games heroes Matthew Denny, Cameron Crombie and Eliza Ault-Connell will be among 23 Australian athletes visiting grassroots Little Athletics centres across the country as part of the inaugural Coles Little Athletics Community Round.

The Coles Community Round provides an opportunity for kids across the country to learn from some of Australia’s leading athletes including Denny, Crombie, Ault-Connell as well as Catriona Bissett (800m), Sarah Carli (400m hurdles) and Alex Hulley (hammer throw).

Australia’s premier male discus thrower and Coles athletics ambassador Matthew Denny said he was excited to visit Toowong Harriers Little Athletics in Queensland for Coles Community Round.

“It’s been such a tough year for everyone in athletics - not just athletes training for the Olympics but for the little athletes as well,” he said.

“I always love going out to see the next generation of Aussie athletes in action and to talk about healthier living.  I hope my visit during Coles Community Round may even inspire a future Olympian or two.”

Coles Corporate Affairs General Manager Sally Fielke said Coles was proud to partner with Little Athletics and Athletics Australia to help athletes live healthier, happier lives.

“Little athletics provides an important pathway for Aussie athletes and it’s also a place where kids develop healthy habits like being active and eating healthily,” she said.

“That’s why we’re incredibly proud to support Aussie athletes through banana donations and sports equipment grants from the Coles Little Athletics Community Fund.”

Coles is the major partner of Little Athletics Australia and community partner of Athletics Australia.  Since 2017 Coles has donated more than 3.5 million bananas and raised over $1.68 million to provide sports equipment grants to Little Athletics centres.
