Clancy Morgan

Port Augusta & Districts Little Athletics Centre

Clancy, now an U17 athlete, has been involved with the Port Augusta Club for over 8 years. In the month of February, Clancy achieved an impressive 8 PB’s, and has attained 6 club records this season in Shotput, Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump & Javelin!

When Clancy was asked what inspires him to work so hard in his athletics performance, Clancy said that he loves being able to push his physical boundaries further and further, and see personal improvement in both himself and his peers. One of Clancy’s main athletics goals is to reach 6m in his Long Jump before the end of the year.
While Clancy continually demonstrates his dedication and determination to his high standard athletics performance, Clancy also shows a strong commitment to the club. Clancy is always the first to assist in setting up for meets and the last to leave after packing-up, and he also assists in leading the warm-up’s. Clancy constantly brings a positive approach and attitude to the club, and is a great role model through his display of moral support for younger athletes after completing his own events, and is often seen encouraging and supporting all age groups.
In his final season of Little Athletics with Port Augusta, Clancy hopes to see Little Athletics prosper and grow, especially in the country regions as he believes it is a fun and effective way to discover your own abilities and personal achievements.

Little Athletics SA
Zoe Cummings

Mid Coast Little Athletics Centre

As an U13 athlete this season, Zoe has always been a dedicated runner, and has competed and trained at Mid Coast since she was 4 years old, continually showing a core value and commitment of self improvement during her time at the club.

Unfortunately Zoe was injured for a large part of this Little Athletics Season, but although she has been unable to compete, Zoe is seen every week attending competitions, both at the club and at the athletics stadium. Zoe’s injury certainly hasn’t dampened her spirits, and she has not been idle while the injury heals. In addition to regular recovery and fitness sessions, Zoe has become more involved in assisting with the running of events for her age group at club meets, helping to measure, spike and rake, whilst continuing to support and encourage her fellow athletes while they compete.
Recently at the Adelaide Brighton Cement State PB Classic II event, Zoe was made aware of the shortage of officials for the day, and wasted no time in volunteering to help. Zoe, along with another Mid Coast athlete, assisted to run the Long Jump Event for the day, staying in the field for the entire day to ensure athletes attending could undertake their competition with minimal delays. Zoe had many challenges thrown her way throughout the day, but approached each challenge with a level of maturity and confidence this is well above her age.

Zoe also immediately volunteered to assist the officials at the Toyota Australia

State Combined-Event Championships, and again spent the day assisting with the Long Jump, and has gained valuable experience and knowledge from the older officials that she assisted.

Zoe has shown herself to be a selfless and committed athlete to the sport, who is now showing an interest in furthering her involvement in athletics as an official, and is a magnificent example of a young person who is willing to put others before herself. Zoe has not only made a great contribution to her club, but also the wider athletics community, through the involvement at the SALAA State Competitions.

Little Athletics SA
Mike & Jo Stillwell

Mid Coast Little Athletics

Mike & Joy are both excellent examples of how grandparents can become the heart of a club. Every week, they are among the first to arrive to assist with setup, with the setup of the discus nets and setting out the Javelin area being their specialty, making sure both areas are set up to a highest standard possible to ensure the safety of all athletes, volunteers and families
After setup, Mike then transforms into the club barbecue chef, where each week he looks after the cooking of the club’s fundraising sausage sizzle, ensuring all of the hungry athletes and families are fed. Joy is not to be outdone, and while Mike is busy cooking, she can be found helping younger age groups with a marker or tape measure in hand.
Whenever the barbecue is quiet, or the athletes have enough helpers, Mike & Joy can be found watching the events, cheering on not only their grandchildren competing, but all others who have achieved their best, or giving a quiet word of encouragement to those who may be a little upset after a disappointing event. Mike is then back to his cooking on the barbecue to keep all of the volunteers fed, while Joy is always seen helping to pack up the equipment at the end of the club meet.

Mike and Joy have been assisting at the club for almost 3 seasons, and have never once expected any recognition or praise for their efforts. Without their hard work and dedication, we are told the Mid Coast Club would not run anywhere near as smoothly as it does, week after week.
