Raymond Terrace athletes excel at NSW country championships

Twelve Raymond Terrace Little Athletics Centre members collected an incredible 36 medals when they traveled to Dubbo earlier this month to compete in the NSW country championships.

The forecast rain, which everyone in Dubbo was praying for, unfortunately did not eventuate, but the competition was halted for an hour due to a dust storm.

"It was an incredibly successful event for our competitors with every one of them coming home with medals," a committee member said.

"A number of competitors managed to record personal best times, in addition to the huge haul of 36 medals. The carnival also proved to be a fabulous preparation for the regional championships, to be held on February 1 and 2 at Glendale Athletics Track."

"The relay was a thrilling race with seven teams entered, generating lots of cheering from the stands, with Raymond Terrace stealing 2nd place on the line from Armidale.

"It was thrilling for a number of reasons; it was a last minute entry that had been denied by the organisers earlier in the day only to be allowed entry just half an hour before the race, and because it was such a young team comprising two 11-year-olds, a 12-year-old girl and a 14-year-old."
